What you will practise
SUM adds numeric amounts. COUNT counts nonblank entries. Changing the row field recomputes the groups from the original records.
Insert → Pivot → source, rows, values, aggregationOpen Insert pivot above the worksheet. Read the task, select the requested range and apply the operation to see its actual effect.
First exercise example
Range A1:F8; Group by Team; Values Revenue; SUM; Apply pivot.
This example uses the original practice data. Fresh data changes the records; follow the current task.
4 exercises in this lesson
- Exercise 1
Create a pivot from A1:F8: group by Team and SUM Revenue.
- Exercise 2
Create a pivot from A1:F8: group by Team and COUNT Revenue entries.
- Exercise 3
Change the existing pivot to group by Item, keeping SUM Revenue and source A1:F8.
- Exercise 4
Change the existing pivot from SUM to COUNT Revenue, keeping Team and source A1:F8.
Before you check your answer
- Use the complete source. Set the header-inclusive source range before choosing the group and value fields.
- Distinguish SUM and COUNT. SUM adds numeric values; COUNT here counts nonblank value entries. Inspect the computed summary rather than just its field labels.
- Change one setting carefully. Regrouping and switching aggregation must preserve the other requested settings. Apply pivot recomputes the summary from the real records.
How the answer is checked
Apply changes the worksheet; it does not mark an exercise complete. Choose Check worksheet to check the actual operations against the requested configuration and resulting rows, formats, selection, summary or chart. Valid equivalent workflows can pass. Invented source values or a claimed final result cannot replace the operation. Account progress is saved only after the server verifies the same task and access rules.
Use progressive hints when you need help, then try the task again with fresh data. Correctly solving a step opens the next exercise.
The workbook opens with this skill selected. Work through the exercises at your own pace.
