Lesson 88 of 92 · 3 exercises

Practise Column and line charts

What you will practise

The chart uses actual source labels and values. A line chart here follows chronological source order; duplicate category labels remain separate records.

Insert → Chart → source, categories, values and labels

Open Insert chart above the worksheet. Read the task, select the requested range and apply the operation to see its actual effect.

First exercise example

Range A1:F8; Categories Item; Values Revenue; Column; title “Revenue by item”; horizontal “Item”; vertical “Revenue”; Apply chart.

This example uses the original practice data. Fresh data changes the records; follow the current task.

3 exercises in this lesson

  1. Exercise 1

Create a column chart from A1:F8 using Item categories and Revenue values. Set title “Revenue by item”, horizontal label “Item” and vertical label “Revenue”.

  2. Exercise 2

Sort the log by Date oldest to newest, then create a line chart from A1:F8 with Date categories and Revenue values. Use title “Revenue over time”, horizontal label “Date” and vertical label “Revenue”.

  3. Exercise 3

Create a column chart from A1:F8 using Item categories and Units values. Set title “Units by item”, horizontal label “Item” and vertical label “Units”.

Before you check your answer

  • Choose the actual series. Select the source, category column and numeric value column. The chart and its Chart data table use the same records.
  • Order a time series. For the chronological line exercise, open Sort source data and sort Date ascending before applying the chart.
  • Label the chart. Match the requested column or line type, title and horizontal and vertical labels. Duplicate categories remain separate source records.

How the answer is checked

Apply changes the worksheet; it does not mark an exercise complete. Choose Check worksheet to check the actual operations against the requested configuration and resulting rows, formats, selection, summary or chart. Valid equivalent workflows can pass. Invented source values or a claimed final result cannot replace the operation. Account progress is saved only after the server verifies the same task and access rules.

Use progressive hints when you need help, then try the task again with fresh data. Correctly solving a step opens the next exercise.
